Regency Era Watercolour Miniature Portrait - The Grumpy Marine
Description
A charming miniature portrait from the early 19th Century (Likely Regency), showing a grumpy man with an impressive chin strap beard. He is wearing the yellow dagger shaped pin badge of the Royal Marines (founded in 1664) on his leather sash. The portrait is presented in a rare, William Hill papier mache frame. The frame has the impressed crown logo with the maker's name at the reverse. The frame has a brass oval inner window and glass dome with original brass hanger. The original brass floral motif is missing.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is a small loss to the upper right corner of the frame and the brass elements have some tarnishing. The original brass floral motif is missing and a small nail tip is visible where it once would have sat.
