Collection Information

This collection of watercolours from the artist's portfolios and sketchbooks includes British landscape and coastal scenes from the Highlands of Scotland to the beaches of Cornwall. Of particular note are paintings that the artist entered into monthly competitions at the Constable Art Club from 1913 to 1914. These works feature notes and comments by fellow members on their reverse, offering a moving insight into artistic and rural life in the months before the First World War.

Artist Biography

Raymond Turner Barker (1872-1945) was an architect and artist born in Southgate, Middlesex, England. He studied art at the Slade and Royal Academy Schools from 1895 to 1900 and exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1916.
