A fine pastel study, depicting an agouti by British artist Raymond John Vandenbergh (b.1889). The wildlife artist has interestingly captured the character and nature of the agouti. On grey wove paper, laid to orange backing card. With an inscribed exhibition label on the reverse with additional details, as shown in photos. Inscribed and dated on the reverse.Condition
In very good condition. Very minor surface creases to the paper.

Artist Biography
Raymond John Vandenbergh (b.1889) was a painter of animals, portraits and landscapes in oil, pastel and watercolour. Vandenbergh initially attended the Hornsey School of Art and later received instruction under the renowned animal and wildlife painter, Arthur Wardle.
Vandenbergh gained much success as a wildlife painter going on to exhibit his paintings at the Royal Academy and at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters.
