A fine watercolour painting by British artist Ralph William Bardill, depicting a winter woodland near Bettws-y-Coed. Delicate brushstrokes and a thoughtful use of colour clearly highlight the artist's proficiency in subject and medium. Signed lower left. The watercolour has been well presented in a washline mount and gilt-effect frame with a gallery label fixed verso. On paper.

The watercolour is in very good condition with minimal discolouration.

Artist Biography

Ralph William Bardill (1876-1935) was a painter, born in Prescot, Lancashire. He began as an apprentice bookseller and stationer before studying in Paris at the Académie Julian in 1906. Bardill also spent a year at the RCA. He held one-person shows in St Helens and Nottingham and exhibited his landscape and coastal paintings at the RA, RI, RCamA and at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. His work is in the collection of St Helens Council.
