A charming and impressive still life watercolour with gouache detail, depicting a stoneware pot with a decorative pattern and a striped vase, by the artist R. Inwards. Dated 1868, this is a remarkable survival for such a small work, with carefully minute brushwork, indicating the artist's high level of proficiency in the medium. Inscribed '20 J', this picture may have been part of an album or intended for a set of illustrations. Well-presented in a light wooden frame, as shown. Signed and dated. On wove.
Condition
There is some staining to the lower edge, and overall discolouration and surface dirt is due to the age of the picture. The frame has an area of surface loss to the lower left corner, as shown.
