Description

A fine pastel copy of Rembrandt's 'Self Portrait as the Apostle Paul' (1661), which hangs in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, by R.G. Coslett (fl.1808-1833). Presented in an ornate gilt-effect wooden frame with swept rails and corners. Signed and dated to the lower-right edge. There is a plaque at the centre of the lower edge of the frame inscribed with the name of the artist and date of the painting. On wove.

Condition

There are a few spots of foxing and some stable cracks to the frame. Overall in excellent condition for its age and very well presented.

Artist Biography

R.G. Coslett (fl.1808-1833) was a British painter and miniaturist. He exhibited some portraits at the Royal Academy in London between 1808 and 1827.
