Collection Information

Philip Naviasky (1894-1936) Portrait and landscape painter of Polish-Jewish extraction born and lived in Leeds. He studied at Leeds School of Art and then started as a student of painting at the Royal Academy Schools at age 18, possibly the youngest student ever admitted. He was granted a Royal Exhibition award for three years at the Royal College of Art. He worked widely in Yorkshire, Spain, the south of France, Morocco and elsewhere. He painted portraits of Lord Nuffield, Ramsay MacDonald , Philip Snowden and many Dales characters. He exhibited at RA, RP, RSA and had a series of solo shows. He stopped painting in the early 1960’s because of failing eyesight. The BBC lists 31 of his paintings in various museums around Britain.
