A nautical scene off the North Foreland, a chalk headland on the Kent coast of southeast England. There is an artist's label on the verso, inscribed 'Topsail schooner under all plain sail, on the port tack, about to round the North Foreland. In company with a trading smack'. 1995 RSMA exhibition label on the verso. Presented glazed in a wash line mount and a wooden frame with a gilt-effect inner edge. The title is inscribed a the centre of the lower edge of the mount. Signed to the lower-right edge. On watercolour paper.Condition
There are some small marks to the mount and dents to the frame. Overall in fine condition.

Artist Biography
Peter Whittock was an accomplished nautical artist who exhibited at the Royal Society of Marine Artists. Before painting full-time he worked as a tugboat skipper. His first-hand experience of ships and the sea underscores the detail and affection of his artistic style.
