A watercolour painting of the 19th-century ship the Earl of Carlisle. Presented glazed in a wash line mount and a wooden frame with a gilt-effect inner edge. Signed and dated to the lower-right edge. The name of the ship is inscribed at the centre of the lower edge of the mount. Artist's label on the verso which includes the name and extensive information about the ship, including its signal, number, and captain. On watercolour paper.Condition
There are some minor scuffs to the frame but overall in fine condition.

Artist Biography
Peter Whittock was an accomplished nautical artist who exhibited at the Royal Society of Marine Artists. Before painting full-time he worked as a tugboat skipper. His first-hand experience of ships and the sea underscores the detail and affection of his artistic style.
