There is deterioration to the painting to the edges of the paper but more significantly to the right hand side where there are areas of major paint loss. There is discolouration and light foxing to the paper.

Petre Ghent was a painter of landscapes in oil and watercolour, who started working life as a hairdresser in Birkenhead where he was born. He attended Birkenhead School of Art and later moved to Conway, Gwynedd, North Wales, which was the inspiration for most of his paintings. Ghent was elected a member of the Liver Sketching Club in 1880 and exhibited many works at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, the RA, ROI and the RCamA of which he was a founding member. In 1905 he returned to Liverpool where he later died. Examples of his work are held by the Atkinson Art Gallery, Dundee Art Galleries and Museums, NML, Torre Abbey Museum and the Williamson Art Gallery.
