Peter Curran

Darkly graphic, this selection of etchings and intaglio prints by the artist Peter Curran records the small market town of Berkeley, Gloucestershire, in his own developed style.
Peter Curran

Peter Curran produced an astonishing range of highly original artwork during his life, including paintings, drawings and etchings. Adopted at birth in Bristol, England, his start in life was difficult and, like many such children, he struggled to find his family identity, leaving home at 16 years of age to make his way in the world. Early in his adult life, Peter changed his surname from that of his adoptive parents to that of his birth mother, Curran.

The search for an identity played an important role in Peter’s creative life and can be seen in many of his highly original and accessible works. While this collection depicts areas around Bristol and Gloucestershire, the artist also loved Liverpool and was inspired by the city’s world famous architecture. A retrospective exhibition of Curran's work was held after his death, in 2013 at The Albert Dock, Liverpool.
