A charming rural scene showing figures walking along a winding country path that leads towards a small village. The artist has signed, dated and inscribed to the lower left corner. The painting has been presented in a simple gilt frame with wash-line mount. There is a label at the reverse with a brief biography of the artist. On wove.Condition

Artist Biography
Painter and etcher born in Brentford, London. His father Ralph Thomas was allegedly a collector, etcher and friend of Whistler but in fact, he was also a Serjeant-at-law which was the equivalent of a senior judge. Thomas studied under Whistler, Auguste Delatre (1822-1907) and at the Royal Academy Schools under Millais. He was elected Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers in 1881 and exhibited at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, Dudley Gallery Art Society, Royal Academy of Arts, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Institute of Oil Painters and at the Art Gallery. Several etchings by Thomas are in the collections of the Ashmolean Museum, Auckland Art Gallery, New Zealand and the V&A. His death was recorded in Hailsham, Sussex and was buried at nearby Hellingly.
