Artist Biography

Paul Schmolling (1892-1965) was a German painter and graphic artist. He studied at the Berlin Museum of Decorative Arts under Emil Orlik and art history at the University of Berlin. He was a member of the November Group, active in Berlin before relocating to Insterburg, East Prussia, and later Elmshorn. In 1937, two of his works were confiscated during the Nazi "Degenerate Art" campaign; however, by 1940 he participated in the Great German Art Exhibition in Munich and held membership in the Reich Chamber of Fine Arts.
