Paul Düyffcke (1847-1910) was a German painter, sculptor, and draftsman. He initially worked as a lithographer, before attending art academies in Dresden, Berlin, and Weimar. After volunteering for service in the Franco-Prussian War, he became a professor at the Hamburg School of Applied Arts. He painted and photographed a wide range of subjects, including landscapes, portraits, nudes, fairy tales, animals, and Hamburg street life. He also made statues in marble and bronze, designed wall decorations, and produced portrait medals. In 1889, Düyffcke presented the composer Johannes Brahms with the official insignia of his appointment as an honorary citizen of Hamburg on behalf of the Hamburg Senate. Brahms was also given a gouache by Düyffcke.
