This eclectic collection of imaginative intaglio prints and watercolours by British artist Patricia Johnstone (1944-2023) draws on both biblical and ancient cultures, with a focus on fantastical elemental beings.
Whilst little is known of Johnstone's life, her work has clear influences in the contemporary British printmaking movements of the 20th century, with a twist. Her coastal inspired figurative works have roots in mythological narratives, with a fantasy element and a particular penchant for portraits and animal studies.
Johnstone demonstrates a proficiency in a wide range of intaglio methods, including etching, aquatint, collagraphy, monotype and woodcut printing.
