Patric Stevenson PPRUA - Signed & Framed 1962 Tempera Evening in the Estate

Description

A charming mid 20th Century egg tempera painting by the listed British artist Patric Stevenson PPRUA, depicting a landscape scene with a flowing river in front of the mountains in Ireland. The artist has used a vibrant colour palette with expressive sweeping strokes to expertly portray the scene in Glengarriff, County Cork. The use of warm hues and darker tones brings a dramatic contrast to the composition, drawing the eye in to the areas of interest within the picture. The delicate brushstrokes and application of paint highlights the artist's clear proficiency in the medium.

Signed in the lower left hand corner. Well presented in a wooden painted slip with hessian style cotton fabric and a simple black frame, as shown. With a label on reverse with date, title and artist.

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and very minor surface dirt. The slip contains some very minor discolouration. The frame is in fine condition.

Artist Biography

Patric Stevenson was born in Wadhurst, Sussex and was educated at Methodist College, Belfast, and from 1926 to 1928 studied at the Belfast School of Art, and later at the Slade School, London. During World War II he served in the Royal Air Force as a radar mechanic and was a lecturer in art and music in Tring, Hertfordshire, 1946-50 when he relocated to Ulster. He was President of the Royal Ulster Academy, and examples of his work are in the Ulster Museum, Armagh County Museum and the Waterford Municipal Art Gallery. He exhibited on a few occasions at the Royal Hibernian Academy and at Limerick City Art Gallery.
