Parker Hagarty (1859-1934), original watercolour. Silver birch by a silent pool. The artist has used a range of brushstrokes and tones to accurately portray the ambiance of the calm landscape. Presented in an ornate gilt frame with internal slip and glazing. Indistinctly signed. On fibrous paper.

Artist Biography

Parker Hagarty was a painter, born in Canada, and as a child came to England. He was educated in Liverpool and later studied at the Liverpool School of Art and at the Académie Julian, Paris, under Bouguereau and Boulanger. He settled in Cardiff in 1887 and was a founding member of the South Wales Art Society, being elected a member of the Royal Cambrian Academy in 1900. Hagarty exhibited at the principal London galleries from 1884, and many of his views were of Wales and East Anglia. Hagarty also showed at the RA, RI, ROI, RSA, RBSA, and at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. Examples of his work are in the collections of Cardiff Council, Cardiff University, GAC, Newport Art Gallery, NMW, North Ayrshire Council, and the Royal Albert Memorial Museum. Hagarty was the brother of Mary S. Hagarty and, like her, was elected to the Liver Sketching Club in 1879 and was Vice President a decade later.
