P. Josetti - Early 20th Century Oil Fruit and Wine

Description

An impressive early twentieth-century still life. A basket overflows with apples, grapes, and vines onto a tabletop, where plates of peaches and lemons are laid beside a glass and jug of wine. Set against a dark backdrop, the abundant display is illuminated by dramatic chiaroscuro lighting and is rendered in warm, vibrant colour. The work is signed to the lower right and is well presented in an ornate gilt frame. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age, including slight discolouration and craquelure. Canvas tear repair to the upper left, and inspection under UV light reveals areas of overpainting. Slight undulation to the canvas in the upper left corner. Faint impressions from the stretchers. Light wear to the frame. Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age.
