Artist Biography

Oscar Pollak (1907-1980) was born in Manchester to Russian and Austrian parents in 1907. An artist who worked in woodcut, linocut and sculpture, he lived and worked from 1934 in Buenos Aries. He was an avid illustrator and was great friends with Walt Disney. Walt offered him several positions within the Disney Studios.

In the early 1950's, he returned to England and concentrated on linocuts and woodcuts, as well as sculpture studies. His father was the inventor of 'Tele-Photography' Anton Pollak.

The works of Oscar Pollak echo traditional techniques of the linocut medium, with string effects of light and shade being created through single lines, some almost abstract, suggesting form through his own unique viewpoint.
