Very minor surface marks. Inspection under UV light reveals no apparent restoration. Overall the artwork is in very good condition for its age. Some wear and light staining to the slip. Light wear to the frame, including stable cracking, scuffs and losses to the gilt surface.

Oliver Clare (1853–1927) was a British still-life painter best known for his highly detailed and richly coloured depictions of flowers and fruit. Born in Birmingham into an artistic family, he was the son of the painter George Clare, from whom he received his early training. Clare developed a meticulous style marked by careful observation, polished surfaces, and a strong sense of composition, continuing and refining the Victorian tradition of floral still life. His works were widely exhibited, including at the Royal Academy, and remain admired for their technical precision and vibrant naturalism.
