An accomplished watercolour piece depicting the elaborate interior of a cathedral. The whole scene, from the stained glass windows to the delicate wood panelling, is captured in fine detail. Signed and dated in the lower left. On paper laid to card.Condition
There is a very minor scuff on the paint in the top left quadrant.

Artist Biography
Oliver Baker was a painter, etcher, and antiquary, born in Birmingham. The son of Samuel Henry Baker, he studied under his father at Birmingham School of Art and at the South Kensington Schools, London. He was elected RE in 1881 and exhibited chiefly landscapes and architectural studies at the RA, RCamA, and RI. He was elected an Associate of the RBSA in 1881 and a full member three years later, and he was an active member of the Birmingham Art Circle. Baker was also a member of the RCamA in 1908 and was an active member of the Committee of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings. He is also known to have designed silver, some of which was manufactured by Liberty & Co. Torre Abbey Museum has an example of his painting. Oliver's wife, Emily Wyatt Baker (1868-1960), was also an exhibiting artist, and she showed at the RBSA, WAG, RI, and RCamA.
