Obediah Hodges (1873-1937) was a self taught painter,born in Newport 15th December 1873. He worked as a merchant seaman until 1900. In between 1902 and 1909 he and his wife Sarah moved to the old Woollen factory Cottages at Mynyddislwyn.They spent the rest of their lives there. He painted all the local scenes,including St.Tudor's Church Mynyddislwyn, and New Bethel Chapel Mynyddislwyn. He is buried in the graveyard at Mynyddislwyn.
