Norwich School 19th Century Oil - The River Ferry

Description

Dusk settles over a wide river as a heavily laden punt, filled with horses, cattle and sheep, sets off towards a quaint village on the far bank. The vivid sunset casts an orange glow across the water. The work is well presented in a gilt frame. Unsigned. Christie's label verso. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age, including discolouration and areas of craquelure. The canvas has been previously relined, and inspection under UV light reveals areas of overpainting. Light wear to the frame. Overall, the artwork is in very good condition for its age.
