Description

A wonderful study of kittens sleeping in a basket by the British artist Norah Pearse. With pen and ink detail. Well presented in a washline mount and gilt effect frame. Signed. On watercolour paper.

Condition

Overall the condition is good. There is some minor discolouration and light foxing. Minor marks and scuffs to the frame.

Artist Biography

Painter, wood engraver and printmaker born in Exeter. After studying at Exeter School of Art Pearse became a versatile artist painting still lifes, landscapes and figures and both watercolours and oils. Much travelled her locations included the Balearic Islands, France and Germany and nearer home, Scotland, Wales and the south of England. Pearse was a prolific exhibitor and showed at the Arlington Gallery, Cooling Galleries, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, Paris Salon, Royal West of England Academy, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, Society of Graphic Artists, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Royal Cambrian Academy, Royal Hibernian Academy, Royal Scottish Academy and the Society of Women Artists. Pearse worked for a time as an art mistress at a local Exeter school dying in that city aged 92.
