Nick Todhunter After John Singer Sargent, Contemporary, Oil on canvas. A head and shoulders portrait of Scottish painter, Robert Brough. Brough's life was cut tragically short at the age of 32 due to injuries sustained in a railway accident in 1905. Sargent, a close friend and mentor, rushed to be by Brough's side in his final days and curated a memorial exhibition in his honour. The work is signed 'Todhunter' and dated '2024' verso.

Artist Biography

Nick Todhunter is a contemporary portrait and landscape painter who combines classical realist techniques with modern approaches. Born in Paris in 1981, he received his foundational art education at Chelsea School of Art in London, before spending three years at the Charles Cecil Studios in Florence - a traditional atelier specialising in classical drawing and painting methods. Having lived across Europe, America, and Asia, Todhunter currently maintains studios in Somerset, England and Venice, Italy. His work has been exhibited throughout Europe and America and is represented in private collections internationally. Beyond his studio practice, Todhunter has established a significant digital presence in the art world. He curates the Instagram account @portraitpaintingsdaily, which features historical and contemporary portraiture and has gained recognition as an influential platform in the portrait painting community. He also creates and hosts "The Lives of the Artists" podcast, conducting interviews with artists, art historians, and curators about their practices and perspectives. Additionally, he produces educational films focused on art history.
