Description

This simplistic oil study by Italian artist Nazzanero Cuguzza (b.1924) depicts a Spanish bull fight with a horse-mounted Picador jabbing the bull with a lance. This particular performance is known as the tercio de varas, and is the first part in a traditional bullfight. The painting is signed to the lower right. Signed and dated verso. On canvas board.

Condition

There is a small amount of overpainting visible in the top third of the composition and a white paint mark down the right hand edge of the board.
