Original mid-19th-century botanical lithograph depicting the species, Prunus spinosa (Blackthorn). Hand-inscribed with Latin notations to the lower margin and presented in a contemporary solid oak frame.
Condition
Good condition, with wear consistent with age. Light foxing and dirtying to the paper. No tears, creases, or significant damage observed. The picture frame and mount are in excellent condition.

Capturing the spirit of scientific advancement in Europe during the nineteenth century, these botanical lithographs were published as 'Botanical Conversations for the Understanding of Native Flora' in 1858 by two botanists at the forefront of biology and mycology, Emil Adolf Rossmässler (1806-1867) and Bernhard Auerswald (1818-1870).
Each illustration has been hand inscribed with further botanical notes in Latin by an unknown botanist of the period, adding to the historical significance and unique nature of each work.
Encompassing florals, ferns, fungi, lichens, seaweed and many other types of botany found across Northern Europe, each illustration has been freshly framed in solid oak and carefully mounted to maintain its charm and historical value. These botanical illustrations can be hung individually, in small groups or a large set for a really spectacular interior showpiece.
