The work of Naomi Frears is richly textural and subtly layered, with delicate lines and marks that hover at the edge of visibility. While her practice leans toward abstraction, Frears notes “the figure insists on appearing – it’s the means by which I communicate.”
Naomi Frears is an artist based in St Ives, Cornwall who works across film, painting, printmaking, and curatorial projects. Recent solo projects include commissions for Exeter Phoenix, the Royal Albert Memorial Museum, and Bold Tendencies, as well as exhibitions at Harbour House Gallery, Kestle Barton, and a public work in Lincolnshire. She co-curated Thanks For The Apples at Falmouth Art Gallery and completed a major commission for Hospital Rooms at Bethlem Royal Hospital.
Her work frequently appears on the cover of the London Review of Books and is held in public and private collections, including the Government Art Collection. In 2023, she was nominated for the Film London Jarman Award.
