Description

A rare 18th Century portrait of a girl wearing a black silk bonnet with a rose affixed, holding a spaniel. Drawn in blue paper, this naive and intimate portrait captures an informal and relaxed young lady, with rouge cheeks and curled ringlets. Her left sleeve is visible, indicating a fine lace dress. On blue laid paper.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age. There are surface marks and discolouration, as shown, with undulation to the paper and an unfinished appearance. Small 1cm tear to the upper right, where the corner has been cropped slightly. There is a later numerical inscription to the reverse in graphite.
