A charming Mid century street scene, showing a sunlit town centre with people busying themselves on the pavements and a grand clock tower in the distance. The artist has signed and dated to the lower right corner. On canvas.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. Inspection under UV light reveals some areas of restoration. The canvas has come loose from the stretchers at points around all four edges. Several canvas repairs to the reverse.

Artist Biography
Myles Meehan, born in Darlington, County Durham in 1904, was a noted artist in England, especially from the 1940’s onward. Much of his work depicts the social and industrial life of England during the 1950’s.
He was a prominent member of the Croydon Arts Society. He made a bequest of a number of artworks to Darlington Borough Collection and provision was made for a Trust Fund to promote the development of the visual arts in the Darlington area. Housed within the Darlington Arts Centre is an art gallery known as the Myles Meehan Gallery.
