Murray Urqhart was a well known painter, born in Kirkcudbright. He studied at Edinburgh School of Art, the Slade School, Westminster School of Art with Sickert, and at the Académie Julian, Paris, under J.P. Laurens.
He exhibited widely, mainly at the RBA having been elected a member in 1914, the RA, and the Lefevre Gallery and Walker's Gallery in London.
He experimented with pointillism often painting landscapes, portraits and domestic interiors and completed a series of pictures of fairground subjects.
