Sulis Fine Art is delighted to present a collection of evocative Mid 20th Century pen and ink drawings by the Australian artist Mollie Paxton. Mollie depicts fantastical, and somewhat frightening creatures in a unique scrawl. These imagined creatures and figures bear some resemblance to the ones found in Hieronymus Bosch compositions and have numerous religious connotations. Each study is numbered and annotated to the reverse. We also have an upcoming collection of works by the artist's husband, Brian Midlane.

Mollie Paxton was a painter known for her figurative and religious studies. Paxton was the wife of the Australian Expressionist Brian Midlane. As they felt their work was not appreciated in Australia, the couple moved to the UK where Mollie exhibited mainly in London. She was a self confessed follower of Georges Rouault and her painting is influenced by his work.
