An expressive study of a village landscape by British artist Miles Balmford Sharp (1897-1981). The scene depicts cattle grazing the river bank, parallel with a horse drawn cart on the right-hand side. The artist has captured the scene in an impasto style with saturated colour and short sharp brushstrokes. Signed to the lower right. Well-presented in a distressed slip and reeded frame. On canvas on stretchers.Condition

Artist Biography
Miles Balmford Sharp was an English artist from Brighouse, Yorkshire. He studied at the Central School of Art and Design. Sharp was a painter in oil paint and watercolour, focusing mainly on landscapes and architecture. Alongside his painting practice Sharp was also a keen etcher, engraver and lithograph artist. Sharp exhibited widely including exhibiting works at the Royal Academy, London, England. Royal West of England Academy and Birmingham Society of Artists.
