Mid 20th Century Oil - Late Summer Hay Harvest
Description
A wonderful c.1950 agricultural study of farm labourers harvesting hay in the summer sunshine. The artist has wonderfully captured the heat of the day and busy workers. This scene contrasts beautifully with the natural foliage that frames the composition. There is another very fine landscape study of an old stone cottage to the reverse. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
The condition is good for a picture of this age but in keeping with the vintage aesthetic of the piece. There is surface dirt and flakes of paint loss scattered across the surface, with a small canvas tear repair to the right edge that has been fully restored. Paper or card fragments have become fixed to the canvas surface and this is visible in the upper left quadrant, along with a white deposit. Inspection under UV light shows no sign of restoration.
