Description

This wonderfully fine 19th-century portrait showcases a young girl in an elegant gingham dress, holding a basket of flowers against a dark background. The ornate gold frame adds to the artwork's grandeur, emphasising the subject's refined appearance and the painter's attention to detail in capturing fabric textures and subtle facial features. Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age, including some minor surface dirt. There are touches of restorative overpainting to small sections of the painting, mainly flakes of paint loss in the background. There is some craquelure to the surface. Although there is some cracking to the frame moulding, it is stable. Some small, partially restored losses to the frame, along with general marks and scuffs.
