Description

A delightful mid-19th-century historical portrait depicting Mary, Queen of Scots. The artist has rendered the figure with exquisite, luminous brushwork, lending her a regal radiance. She is elegantly dressed in a fine gown of gold and cream satin, complemented by a gold headband, ruff, and hat. Her alabaster complexion and flushed cheeks enhance the idealised beauty of the sitter, characteristic of the romantic Victorian tradition. Unsigned. Beautifully presented in an ornate gilt frame. On board.

Condition

Fine craquelure throughout. Inspection under UV light reveals small areas of restoration, notably to the lower margin. Overall the artwork is in very good condition for its age. Wear to the frame, including scuffs, chips and stable cracking throughout.
