An exceedingly pretty traditional Japanese still life of magnolia and Sakura blossoms with a beetle and a Monarch butterfly. This painting holds a lot more fine detail than many other paintings of its style and era. The traditional pith paper translucent qualities suit the petals of the flowers well and add a softness to this pretty composition. The painting is presented in a gilt effect concave frame and the pith paper is laid to board which is visible around the edges of the inner window. Unsigned. On Pith paper.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. The pith paper has some losses to the left edge and lower right and upper left corners. The frame has some considerable scratching and denting with a loss to the lower left edge.
