Mid 19th Century Charcoal Drawing - Christening
Description
A very finely wrought charcoal drawing of a christening in a Catholic church. The interior of the church is filled with an atmospheric darkness which contrasts with the luminosity of the figures in the lower register of the composition. Presented glazed in a gilt-effect wooden frame. Stamped 'R.A'. to the lower-right corner. On wove.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age, including some foxing, and there is a horizontal just above the centre of the work. There are some imperfections and slight scratches to the glazing and extensive, scuffs, scratches, and losses to the frame. Nonetheless, the work appears well-presented overall and is in good condition.
