Description

An attractive etching with a crisp strike and aquatint, depicting a view across a lock at the Cotswold town of Lechlade-on-Thames. Beyond the river, a church spire can be seen in the background. Presented glazed in a wooden frame. Inscribed in graphite with the number 15/150, title, signature, and date to the lower edge. On wove.

Condition

Some minor marks to the frame but overall in fine condition.

Artist Biography

Printmaker born at St. Neots in Huntingdonshire. He studied graphic design at Watford College of Art, 1961-64. After a three year period of teaching, he went on to develop his printmaking skills by enrolling for a postgraduate course at Brighton College of Art, 1967-68. Since then he has lectured on printmaking at various Art colleges and Polytechnics. Chaplin is a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition as well as the Royal Watercolour Society open exhibition. He was elected an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in 1968. Having served as honorary secretary for three years he is now vice-president. He was elected an Associate of the RWS in 1993 and has written an encyclopaedia on Watercolour Techniques.
