Artist Biography
Michael Chaplin is a printmaker born at St. Neots in Huntingdonshire. He studied graphic design at Watford College of Art, 1961-64. After a three year period of teaching, he went on to develop his printmaking skills by enrolling for a postgraduate course at Brighton College of Art, 1967-68. Since then time he has lectured on printmaking at various Art colleges & Polytechnics. Chaplin is a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition as well as the Royal Watercolour Society open exhibition. He was elected an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in 1968. Having served as honorary secretary for three years he is now vice-president. He was elected an Associate of the RWS in 1993 and has written an encyclopaedia on Watercolour Techniques. He has work in public and private collections which include Daily Express and King Constantine of the Hellenes.
