Mears - Gilt Framed 19th Century Oil River Landscape with Castle

Description

A beautifully painted woodland landscape, excellently presented in a period pierced gilt frame with floral design. Painted on Windsor and Newton canvas, and restored by J. Harris & Son, Bath in 1977 (old label verso). There is an indistinct signature to the lower left which looks to read 'Mears'. Signed indistinctly, On canvas.

Condition

There is some light surface dirt typical for a picture this age. There are two very well repaired tears to the sky, which have been well restored and are not very noticeable. A few minor restorations showing under UV light. The frame has some very minor wear in areas, but generally the condition is good.
