There are some slight marks to the surface and chips at the corners of the frame. Overall in very good condition. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration.

Max Brandrett (b.c.1947) is an artist, best known as an art forger, who grew up in a Barnardo's children's home in Brighton. When he was fifteen he left for London and joined a circus and travelled the country looking after the performing elephants. When selling landscape paintings on the street in London, Brandrett was spotted by a criminal dealer with whom he formed a partnership, selling forgeries painted by Brandrett under the guise of having bought the works from house clearances. Ultimately, he was jailed three times. He now paints original works under his own name, with a particular interest in horses, ships, and naval battles.
