A contemporary still life depicting an acoustic guitar beside a vase of pink flowers. Presented in a white mount and a wooden frame. Signed to the lower-right corner. On wove.

Condition

There are some small dents to the frame and marks to the glass but overall in very good condition.

Artist Biography

Max Birne (c.1927-2020) was a contemporary artist who lived in Sussex. For many years he was based in London exhibiting regularly with 'The Free Painters and Sculpture Group' at their Loggia Gallery, near Buckingham palace. Other group shows followed at numerous London venues including the Margaret Fisher Gallery, Piccadilly Gallery and Barbican centre. Solo shows were held at Burgh house, Hampstead, Lauderdale House, Highgate, and the Ox Market in Chichester. Many of Birne's works are held in private collections. He was active in the local art scene in Selsey, West Sussex, regularly participating in the Sussex Open Studios.
