A racecourse scene handled with real energy: jockeys in blue and red silks press their mounts forward, the horses reduced to sweeping strokes of orange, blue and white against green turf. Behind them a grandstand and pale sky are sketched in quickly, with thick, unblended paint and vivid colour giving the whole composition a sense of speed and movement.
