Description

A late-18th or early-19th century map engraving with later hand colouring depicting the English Channel. Inscribed to the upper edge, 'A map of the coasts of England and France bordering on the British Channel. Vol. IV to face the title'. The publication for which the map was designed is unidentified. Inscribed with the name of the artist in plate to the lower-right edge. Presented in a distressed gilt-effect wooden frame. There is a like impression in the collection of the British Museum, without hand-colouring. On laid.

Condition

There is some discolouration, a centrefold crease, and other vertical creases. There are tape marks to the upper edge and the lower-right edge. There is a loss to the substrate at the lower-right edge as well as two small losses at the upper-left edge and upper-right corner.
