'Fascinated by the domestic interior, most aquatints I make are about private houses where I have stayed: the homes of family and friends and how personality and individuality is reflected in a person's dwelling.
I am interested in furniture, interior design and decorative pattern, and how this evokes a sense of history, of passing time and narrative in the work. There is a sense of the outsider looking in, not intruding but reflecting on the quiet still ambience, of a room empty or near-empty, of human life. The play of light through net curtains or windows is pivotal to the image, creating an evocative and mysterious atmosphere.'
