Description

A fine copper plate engraving by Marin Fessard (act. 1766-1787) after the original painting by Jean-Jacques-François Le Barbier (1738-1826). The names of the original artist and sculptor appear at the lower edge of the image and an inscription with the title of the view is at the lower edge of the plate line.

The engraving has been well presented in a dark wood frame with a dark grey mount. There is a label attached at the back from the previous gallery it was displayed in.

Condition

The engraving has some discolouration and light burn within the plate lines. There is light foxing across the surface. The frame is in fine condition.

Artist Biography

Jean-Jacques-François Le Barbier (born in Rouen on 11 November 1738 — died in Paris on 7 May 1826) was a writer, illustrator and painter of French history. By 1780 he was an official painter of the King of France.
He was the father of artist Élise Bruyère.
