A wonderful early 20th century watercolour by Maria Sophie Ludlow (1869-1951). Here the artist has captured a busy ferry port at Iles des ; Lerins. The bold colours used and simple, childlike forms create a striking composition. Well presented in a washline mount and gilt effect frame. Overall the condition is good. With some very minor discolouration. There are several minor losses to the frame at the corners.

Artist Biography
Maria Sophie Ludlow (1869-1951) was a painter born in Clifton, Bristol and studied in Paris. In 1908, her address was given as 90 Rue d'Assas. She was active as an artist in Bristol and exhibited at the Royal West of England Academy who elected her an Associate in 1904 and a full member in 1907. She also exhibited at the London Salon and during the two decades from 1920 she was living in Kensington, London. A painting by her is in the collection of Leicester Arts and Museums Service. Ludlow died in Budleigh Salterton, Devon.
