Margaret O. Hole

Margaret Hole was born in 1919. As a student after the war at the Central School of Art & Design, she had studied textile design but changed to painting upon realizing her true passion. For some years Hole worked as a portrait painter, exhibiting at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of Portrait Painters, the Paris Salon and various other galleries.

Hole's main inspiration from childhood was in botany and astronomy. As her career progressed the bulk of her paintings became more abstracted. She focused her practice on variations of natural forms such as plants, fungi and shells.
