Description

An impressive oil painting by the artist Margaret Gere NEAC (1878-1965), showing a standing female nude, turned away from the viewer. The artist's expressive yet soft brushstrokes beautifully capture the fleshy curvature of the woman's body. The model stands with a shy and intimate posture. This gives the model a vulnerable quality, grasping her right arm, uncomfortable under the viewer's gaze. An interesting example of a woman artist's approach to the female nude, this painting presents a subtle femininity lost on so many male painters. With an additional abstract study on the reverse in heavy impasto. Unsigned. On board.

Condition

In fine condition overall. Very minor scuffing to the edges of the board. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration.

Size

91.3 x 71cm (35.9" x 28")
